This newsletter will cover the latest trends, strategies, and pricing of MD-TV in the distribution channel of the U.S. The premier issue has 51 pages, with 20 pages of charts and graphs of retail pricing, 18 pages on manufacturer and channel news, and profile on Best Buy- the largest retailer of consumer electronics.

GET YOUR FREE COPY NOW! http://insightmedia.info/requestsample.php

"We wanted to bring this unique newsletter to the market to help all our readers understand the dynamics of this fastest growing segment in the Digital TV market", says Chris Chinnock, President of Insight Media. "This newsletter tells you what is going on at the point of distribution- where the money changes hands."

Clearly, there is tremendous growth of Digital TVs today - MD-TV, LCD-TV and PDP-TVs, but many disagree as to which technologies have the competitive advantage. As competition and price pressure intensifies it is vitally important to have better visibility into the retail environment - the real battleground.

"We saw a major ramp up in the number of MD-TV models available in the channel at the end of 2004 and currently, there are nearly 175 on the distribution shelves. Consumers are responding to the "Bigger is Better" mantra, but how will their buying patterns and preference change going forward? How will manufacturers react?" asks Chinnock.

The newsletter will give the reader clear insight into what is going on in the channel, new products, pricing trends and strategies, major news articles and analysis of market direction. It will also include a profile of a major retailer each month with onsite interviews on what the consumer is asking for in Digital TV. One of the key sections will be the Retail Pricing Analysis- DLP models, 3LCD models, and LCOS models. It will contain average prices by technology, screen size, and all models of MD-TV. Charts will also depict prices in different channels and regions of the US. Pricing data is obtained by surveying 29 different web sites chosen to represent the major retailers in several distribution channels and across several goegraphic regions.

The newsletter is targeted at all component suppliers, OEM/ ODM manufacturers, Brand names, and even financial analysts of the digital TV market. A yearly subscription is available for $995 with an optional database containing specifications on all shipping MD-TV sets in the US available for an additional $495.

For more information on the newsletter, go to: http://insightmedia.info/newsletters.php#mdtv

To view the table of contents, go to: http://insightmedia.info/archive/05-05MDTOC.php

ORDER INFORMATION: https://special.mags.net/mdreport-ssl/cart/carthtml/53.html

About Insight Media

Insight Media (www.insightmedia.info) is a full-service market research company specializing in microdisplay-based products in the projection and near-to-eye segments. Aptura technology can enhance motion sharpness through reduced exposure time, and it offers 300% more light output over standard CCFTs. The backlight operates in a scanning mode to cancel out a common LCD problem that Philips calls "sample and hold," and it uses a video processor for backlight control that is "content adaptive" to dynamically dim the backlight. This helps reduce the effects of light leakage, especially in dark scenes viewed in low ambient light. The Aptura solution is far cheaper than LEDs and uses half the number of lamps as CCFT solutions. Philips will re-sell the technology to its illumination business customers.

Best LCD-TV

Sharp 65-inch LCD-TV

Sharp broke new ground with its 65-inch LCD-TV, delivering an impressive image from this massive display.

The company moved the line in the sand for PDP suppliers, seeking to claim new size territory for LCD technology much sooner than most analysts expected. In addition, there will be presentations from the leading buyers of a-Si TFT LCDs, including leading notebook, LCD monitor, LCD TV, mobile phone, public display and other brands. In addition, leading equipment and materials suppliers to a-Si TFT LCD producers will also be presenting how they can improve performance and lower display costs.

TMDisplay and Sharp, the top two LTPS TFT LCD suppliers, will reveal their outlook for LTPS penetration into a number of market segments.

The outlook for plasma displays will be presented by Samsung SDI, NEC Electronics, and Samsung Electronics. Samsung SDI, the leading supplier of plasma panels, will discuss the outlook for PDP demand which continues to grow rapidly as well as their outlook for PDP costs, performance and supply. NEC Electronics, the leading supplier of PDP driver ICs, will discuss how it is working with its customers to bring down the cost of PDP electronics, and Samsung Electronics, one of the leading PDP TV brands, will discuss the PDP TV market outlook.

An innovative approach to thin film diodes, called Dual Select Diode (DSD) AMLCDs, which is expected to equal or approach TFT LCD image quality while using as few as two masks to significantly reduce costs, will be explored by ScanVue President Willem den Boer, who invented DSD as well as super high aperture (SHA) ratio technology.

SEDs will be discussed by Scott Ramirez, VP of SED co-developer Toshiba. It has been reported that Toshiba will begin SED pilot production as early as August 2005, with TV shipments to the US beginning Q1'06 and full-scale volume production from 2007. Toshiba claims SEDs offer better black levels and faster response times than LCDs and PDPs, as well as higher resolution capability and lower electronics costs than PDPs.

The outlook for TDEL displays will be presented by Don Carkner from iFire which is expected to begin pilot production of 34" TV modules this year. iFire believes its technology offers a 30-50% cost advantage over competing FPD technologies and will discuss their commercialization plans.

AMOLEDs have the potential to improve TFT LCD performance, lower costs and give LCD suppliers better control of their material costs. Kodak, Samsung SDI and RiTdisplay will present information on AMOLEDs and will discuss the use of p-Si and a-Si TFT backplanes.

The outlook for PMOLEDs will be presented by Samsung SDI and RiTdisplay; both have benefited from the adoption of PMOLEDs in mobile phones, MP3 players and other applications.

The outlook for LCOS will be presented by Brillian President and CEO Vinny Sollitto. Despite challenges in 2004 with Philips and Intel exiting, LCOS is expected to enjoy significant growth in 2005 with JVC and Sony boosting production, and Brillian, eLCOS and SpatiaLight expected to make continued progress.

The outlook for carbon nanotubes will be presented by Motorola Chief Scientist Jim Jaskie. Motorola continues to make excellent progress in the development and licensing of carbon nanotube technology, which could reinvigorate the nascent FED technology for use in large area TVs.

MEMS displays under discussion include TI's DLP technology and Qualcomm's iMoD technology. InFocus VP Candace Peterson will present their outlook for DLP RPTVs, including the expectations of their recently formed joint venture with TCL Corporation. Qualcomm, which recently purchased Iridigm and its iMod technology, will present their outlook for the commercialization of the iMoD technology in a number of handheld applications.

The outlook for slim CRTs, which are one-third thinner than conventional CRTs, will be presented by LG.Philips Displays executive Siegfried Trinker. A number of companies are expected to commercialize this technology in 2005.

According to DisplaySearch President Ross Young, "We are delighted to bring so many different display technologies into our 2005 US FPD Conference. The new report covers five regions—Japan, North America, Europe, China and ROW—and provides shipment data by technology/region/size/resolution on a sell-in basis for over 30 different brands. In addition, it projects shipments by technology and size on a rolling eight-quarter and four-year basis by region, size and resolution. This comprehensive, detailed report also reveals tube/panel/imager shipments and share, as well as provides an updated bill of materials for all TV technologies. In addition, it provides component design wins by TV product, identifies key strategic issues facing each technology, and provides current and projected street prices for each technology by size and resolution. Subscribers will also receive a weekly flash report covering product and channel trends.

The initial report covers Q3'04 results. Q4'04 brand results will be released in early March in time for the 7th Annual DisplaySearch US FPD Conference. Examples of some of the content for LCD TVs, PDP TVs, DLP RPTVs and LCD RPTVs are described below.

In the case of LCD TVs

LCD TV shipments exceeded expectations in Q3'04, rising 36% Q/Q and 106% Y/Y to 2.2M units.

Europe overtook Japan for the first time, reaching a 35% share on 71% growth. Japan fell to the second largest market despite 15% growth and a 29% share. North America also enjoyed rapid growth up 46% resulting in a 26% share. Sharp was particularly dominant in Japan with a 42% share. By supplier by region, Sharp led in each region, except China where TCL was #1.
